Hold Me In Truth
I come to a complete stop and look up. My eyes slowly follow the aged, fluid lines to the top. I find both strength and fragility there, a holding fast and a surrendering. I visit the same trees day after day. Today I will visit them in the early morning sunlight, tomorrow, it will be the dull white light of an overcast afternoon. Season after season their delicate beauty supports me and holds me in truth.
I delight in expressing sensory impressions from my daily interactions. This tactile practice of folding, crumpling, shaping, and burning, connects me to my immediate environment in a powerful way. I am engaging all my senses, similar to the way I engage with the forest. Paper seems the obvious choice for this expression. Each piece is unique and employs a variety of Japanese papers and processes. It is my intention to continue exploring a variety of forms and ways for the viewer to interact with the work using
the senses of sight, touch, and sound.
